Cumulative Frequency Table

In a discrete frequency distribution the cumulative frequency of a particular value of the variable is the total of all frequencies of the values of the variable which are less than or equal to the particular value.

For example, the following table gives the frequency distribution of number of children in 20 families. If X denotes the number of children in a family, then cumulative frequency of X=2 is 11. Because there are 11 families in which the number of children is either 1 oe 2. The cumulative frequency of X =3 is 15. This means that there are 15 families in which the number of children is 3 or less. Similarly, cumumlative frequencies of X=4 and X=5 are 18 and 20 respectively. The following table gives the values of X and the corresponding cumulative frequencies.
